Tom Kohler Candidate for Rideau Lakes Council Ward 2

Tom Kohler is seeking support to represent Ward 2, South Elmsley, on Rideau Lakes Council.
Kohler’s connection to this area runs deep. His family has called Eastern Ontario home for generations, and his wife’s family has roots in Rideau Lakes dating back to 1816. His family built their Big Rideau cottage in 1967, and he has cherished this community ever since.
Kohler and his wife have been permanent residents of Rideau Lakes since 2012. He has also been actively involved with the Big Rideau Lake Association, including serving as chair of its environmental committee and as a Water Ranger for several years. Protecting the lakes, waterways, rural character and quality of life remains a priority for him.
Kohler’s career has given him a broad range of practical experience:
• 28 years in Eastern Ontario’s high-tech sector, specializing in electro-mechanical design, working mainly as freelance in many environments and within numerous and often challenging management styles
• Owner of a home-renovation business for 18 years
• Renovated and built homes in many different municipalities
• First-hand experience with construction, building regulations and municipal processes
• More than 30 years coaching minor soccer, at both recreational and competitive levels
• Founding member of the Smiths Falls Minor Soccer Association
• Active involvement in community organizations supporting children and families

• Growing up on a farm in North Elmsley taught him the value of hard work, responsibility, teamwork and respect for the land — values he continues to carry with him today
Kohler believes effective local government starts with listening. As councillor, he will bring a practical, respectful and informed approach to Council. He will listen to residents, consider the facts, ask the important questions and work to make decisions in the best interests of the entire community.

Kohler looks forward to meeting the residents of South Elmsley in the next weeks and hearing their ideas, concerns and priorities. He would be honoured to serve the residents of Ward 2 on Rideau Lakes Council.
