“Canada’s most experienced school performer,” Quincy Mack, or Q-Mack for short, made a stop in Westport recently to entertain and encourage students to be an ALL-Star.
The high-energy entertainer brought his popular presentation to St. Edward, where students from kindergarten through grade eight were fully engaged from the moment they entered the auditorium.
Q-Mack pulled out all the stops, spinning basketballs on his fingers, balancing ladders on his chin, and keeping the momentum going for a full hour of fun, laughter and lots of learning opportunities. Students and teachers enjoyed the bold tricks, bright lights, booming music, and the masterful way Q-Mack intertwined video clips from famous sports superstars to deliver an important ALL STAR message that included lessons in Attitude, Leadership, Love, Self-Control, Teamwork, Accountability, and Respect.
Immediately engaged by Q-Mack’s unique style, the students jumped at the opportunity to join Q-Mack at the front when given the chance during a cleverly designed show that was interactive, playful, yet educational.
A “Funtastic Friday,” as Q-Mack quipped, his voice booming across the auditorium, with stories that were relatable and helpful for the young audience. Using props like kids’ backpacks, popular songs, and even his cell phone, the entertainer brought his “little brother” into the storylines to further promote his important messaging, including how bullying can make someone feel and why it shouldn’t exist at school, in the community, or at home.
Q-Mack, an Indigenous entertainer, spoke of his heritage with pride and encouraged those in the audience, looking on in awe, to do the same. When addressing the impressionable crowd of youngsters about ‘Leadership’, Q-Mack used a video with NBA star Lebron James to emphasize the importance of speaking with kindness.
As Q-Mack worked his way through his fast-paced presentation, showcasing his masterful basketball handling, including juggling them high into the air, there is no doubt the students will remember Q-Mack’s visit for quite some time. Hopefully, the messages of character, values, and feelings delivered that day will last even longer.
The school assembly was made possible by the Catholic District School Board through its Indigenous Education Programming, something Principal Renaud appreciates, as it allows his students to experience it.
