The 14th annual Mallorytown Village Fair took place Saturday, Aug. 23, offering a day of free family fun that celebrated community, heritage and local talent. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors enjoyed music, food, entertainment and the relaxed charm of an old-fashioned village fete.

Entertainment included magician John Pert, The Bubble Guy, the County Road 5 Bluegrass Band in the morning and DJ Mel Hunt in the afternoon. For children, highlights included Snow White, a petting zoo and pony rides, a poultry and bird display, face painting and a storytime with children’s author Samuel Martin. The fair also showcased traditional skills, with Betsy Walters of Portland demonstrating the old-fashioned art of spinning, giving visitors a glimpse of village life from years gone by.

Awards were an important part of the day’s celebrations, recognizing both community spirit and local pride. The first-ever “People’s Choice Garden Contest” showcased the beauty and creativity of Front of Yonge’s green thumbs. Voters awarded first place to 1088 1000 Islands Parkway, second place to 1090 1000 Islands Parkway and third place to 24 3rd Concession, proving that stunning gardens are a hallmark of the township. In addition, the fair honoured two residents for their contributions to community life. Reg Hunt was recognized as Citizen of the Year for his outstanding service and commitment, while Catherine Blatch received the Senior of the Year award, applauded for her dedication and involvement.

With its mix of music, activities and recognition of community spirit, the Mallorytown Village Fair once again marked summer’s end in true village style.
