Kate Ferguson Running for Ward 2 Council Seat

Kate Ferguson is running for Rideau Lakes Council, saying she wants to help ensure the municipality continues to be a place where families can build a future.

“I have been proud to call Rideau Lakes home for my entire life,” Ferguson said.

Her family has deep agricultural roots in the community dating back to the 1800s. Ferguson is raising her family in Rideau Lakes, while her family has owned and operated a construction business in the area for more than 40 years. Her husband’s family ran a transmission business for many years, and her husband has since started a contracting company.

Ferguson graduated from the University of Ottawa and has built her career as a legal assistant, including experience working in Municipal Development. Before that, she worked in social work in Lanark County.

During university, Ferguson was a student with the Ottawa Police Service’s Community Development Section, which works directly alongside the Office of the Chief. She was tasked with developing, designing and implementing her own community initiative to help build positive police-community relations.

“This involved me learning about the foundations behind community development and how important fostering working relationships with community truly is,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson said she is running for council because she believes everyone deserves a voice at the table.

“Rideau Lakes is home to working individuals, farmers, retirees, long-time residents, and newcomers alike,” she said. “Members of Council should reflect that diversity.”

She said she wants to bring a perspective grounded in respect for family and a lifetime of living in the community.

“I believe our Municipality needs representation that understands the challenges facing younger working families,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson said her decision to run is based on her connection to Rideau Lakes rather than a career in politics.

“I am not running for Council because politics is my career. I am running because Rideau Lakes is my home,” she said.

“I want to listen to taxpayers, work collaboratively, and make sure that decisions made at Council reflect the interests of all.”
