David Wickenden is seeking support to serve as councillor for Rideau Lakes Township’s North Crosby/Newboro Ward 4.

Wickenden’s connection to Rideau Lakes began in 1969. In 1974, he married Fay Taggart, and they have been married for 52 years. The couple made Rideau Lakes their permanent home in 1979, raising their two daughters and becoming proud grandparents to four grandchildren.

Throughout his career, Wickenden worked locally and travelled extensively across the province, giving him an opportunity to experience life in many different communities. No matter where work took him, Rideau Lakes was and is always home.

Wickenden said he is running for council because he believes in practical, respectful leadership, responsible decision-making and listening to the people he represents and those he works with on council.

His decades of community involvement have taught him the value of teamwork, making decisions based on facts, accountability and putting residents first. He said a vote for him would represent a vote for a councillor who will work with other elected representatives, staff and residents to continue building a strong, vibrant, friendly and respectful Rideau Lakes for the near future and future generations.

“It would be an honour to earn your trust and your vote as your councillor for North Crosby/Newboro Ward 4,” Wickenden said.

For more than 50 years, Wickenden has been committed to serving the people of Rideau Lakes through volunteerism, community leadership and public service. He said strong communities are built by people who are willing to step forward, work together and give back.

His community involvement includes serving as entertainment chair with the Westport Rideau Lakes Snowmobile Club, president and board member of the Rideau Lakes Chamber of Commerce, and as a two-term Westport councillor.

He has also served as logistics chair for the Westport Antique Show, a girls’ softball coach, executive member and president of the Westport Junior B Hockey Club, and treasurer and chief fundraiser for the Westport Rideau Canada Day Committee.

Wickenden has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Westport for 38 years and is a proud life member. He served as an executive member for 17 years, treasurer for five years and president for eight years. He currently serves as past president.

He has been honoured with awards recognizing his commitment to volunteer service and community leadership, including Westport Rideau Lakes Citizen of the Year, the Ontario 25-Year Volunteer Service Award and the Royal Canadian Legion Meritorious Service Medal.

“Let us turn the page and move forward together,” Wickenden said.
