Brian Preston — Ward 1 Bastard & South Burgess — Councillor Candidate

1. Why vote for Brian Preston?
Skills/experience and time to devote to my community on council, serving residents by listening and understanding residents in order to make better council decisions
Contribute to creating a new council that respects each other and operates in a democratic way without using Strong Mayor Powers
Council needs to heal this term: Over 34 years federal public service in executive Human Resource management where my Labour Relations negotiations skills facilitated respectful and meaningful discussions
20 years in Rideau Lakes involved in many local organizations like the Royal Canadian Legion getting to know people and issues across the entire township and getting Veterans and their Spouses pensions from Veterans Affairs
2. Most important current issues for Rideau Lakes Township
Settling on the location and build of Township Offices as this has divided communities and councils for too long with unnecessary expenditure of tax dollars.
Resolving the Lower Beverley Lake Park issue in the best interests of the township and residents using the facilities
Maintaining opposition to ALTO High Speed Rail project cutting through prime farmland, towns, and the Frontenac Arch
Maintaining high water quality of the entire Rideau Lakes system
Improve how infrastructure/building contracting Request for Proposals are developed to better ensure township value for money and less subsequent expenditures fixing deficiencies
Resolve how much the township should contribute to Smiths Falls for use of their recreation facilities
3. Council interaction with residents?
Councillors and the mayor must LISTEN TO and UNDERSTAND what residents are telling council and support Community Enhancement Committees (CECs) in canvassing residents concerns, issues and requests throughout the year in order to have better debate and make better decisions
Councillors must attend as many social events such as Coffee Chats and CEC meetings in their wards and visit other such ward events across the township to be better informed
